Om Malik on Broadband » FCC may say no to Naked DSL

Om Malik mentions that naked DSL (DSL, without a phone line) is being asked for by California, while the FCC is trying to nix it's previous ruling stating Bells have to let people buy naked DSL. I can't really comment on it too much -- I'm "in the biz", so to speak -- but I can say that I disagree with the FCC's ruling. I know of a large group of people who do not want, nor use, their home phone. Prior to this ruling, they were forced to pay for phone service to get DSL. By rescinding this rule, people will be driven away from the Bells and to cable modems. This ruling would hurt the Bells more than it would help. Not good for them, consumers, or anyone else.
