Dalai Lama, Coming To A Town Near You

The Dalai Lama on Tour, an Exile on Main Street

He's a religous leader, he's a self-help guru, he's a mellow guy, he's the Dalai Lama!

Ok, seriously -- I've of mixed feelings on this. I saw the Dalai Lama speak when I was in college, around '92, maybe '93. He's an excellent speaker, and has much that is interesting to say -- and not a few worthwhile things to listen to. Buddhism has interesting things going for it, not the least of which is it's strict adherence to non-violence. It's a very amazing and interesting religion in many ways.

But I also grew up seeing those wonderful people, Jim and Tammy Fay, along with Oral Roberts, and a few others. Religious leaders aren't pop stars. Kind of voids the stance of being meek and humble when you're wearing $500 suits and shouting out that the Lord speaks directly to you.

It's dangerous ground, especially when you've got something important to say (and, in my opinion, worth listening to.)
